Qi Gong (気功)

Updated: May 25, 2021

Qi Gong, means "QI=気=energy | Gong=功=work," refers to an ancient healing art that cultivates a person's vital life force, which the Chinese call "Qi | Chi" or Japanese call “Ki.” As we humans being live on Qi or life force energy it can impact energy in many ways including the way we think and feel. When the Qi or life force energy is flowing our life force flows, when this life force energy is blocked dis-comfort, dis-ease and ailments can occur. The practice of Qi Gong thus helps strengthen, enhance and circulate Qi as a result supporting our health, energy and vitality. This Energy Work supports the balance of our mind, body and spirit, letting go old energy and bringing in new.

Meditation is a form of Qi Gong, practiced in the form of tranquility. Qi Gong integrates tranquility, movements, breath work, posture and awareness. This moving meditation with breathwork creates energy flows in the body, improving breathing, circulation, and energy levels; it can increase relaxation and improve sleep, it is even known to restore balance to neuromuscular functions, strengthen our bones and immune systems.

What I love about the Qi Gong practices are it is straightforward to learn and easily modified for people of varying movement levels. There are simple flowing movements for relaxation and releasing stress, gentle stretches for flexibility and releasing tension.

New info: Qi Gong has the potential to play a role in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of respiratory infections such as COVID. Studies show it reduces inflammation (stress), enhance immune function and enhance respiratory muscles.
